Release of the Mostro kits

Release of the Mostro kits

We’re happy to announce that the Mostro is being released. Production kits are being sent to the rep pilots and we’re getting ready for shipments to customers. Customer shipments could start this week or next week at the latest. We thought we would start shipping today March 31st. but we decided to incorporate a last-minute suggestion from a building session last Saturday to make it easier to do some setups. We’re making that addition right now so that the kits are shipped with them.

As some of you know we spent this last weekend in Las Vegas with our Factory Pilot Jason Bell doing the final testing of the production kit. We built a final production kit on Friday and Saturday and flew it on Sunday. Unfortunately as many of you know since you were this last weekend at the Vegas funfly you saw Sunday’s weather at the Vegas FunFly with winds that were a constant 30-40 mph throughout the day so it was tasking for our pilot but he put the Mostro through some very grueling final tests. We did video record part  of those flights and we have some from previous test sessions so we will be putting them together and posting a video in a couple of days. We also taped a video of the DFC head heli flying at an incredible low 900 rpm even in that wind to demonstrate how the RigidCore dampening system works at any speed regardless of the head type.

Now about the Mostro V2

That’s what we jokingly call it at the factory. We internally call it the V2 Mostro because there have been so many improvements done on the last few months to what people have seen so far that they would easily qualify it as a V2 version of the Mostro. Some of them were already posted like the dual one-way system, the new swashplate and other ones but there are many more.

We need to first thank our fellow heli pilots for your all the feedback we have received because without it we wouldn’t know what customers want or have concerns about so that we can make design changes and improve the design. Here are the changes that are coming out on the release kits:

1) New OPtional additional location to place the ESC.

Some customers told us that they felt better if they had a location to place the ESC outside in the open so we decided to design one and make it a part of the kit. As you can see in the following pictures there is a new ESC plate that allows you to place the ESC under the batteries. This location is also adjustable in height to let you adjust the plate and put it close to your battery packs. Some customers felt very strongly about having that ability so we made it an optional part. We did test it in flight too so we know it works great too.

An actual unit with a large ESC installed.
Notice how the height is adjustable so that you can place it close to your battery packs.

2) New air diverter plate attached to the frames.

In the initial design the air diverter plate was attached to the canopy. Some customer were concerned that the installation of the plate would be difficult and asked if there was a way to attach it to the heli. The answer is yes and it’s now part of the kit. The problem was that we had to have a way to get the batteries in and out so we went ahead and made it into a swiveling diverting plate that at the same time raises the locking bracket for easy insertion of the battery plate. It also serves as an insurance policy so that the battery place won’t slide out even if you forgot to lock it in place.

There is a thumbscrew that keep the whole system locked in place.

You can see it in motion in this video.

3) New additional location for receiver battery.

Some customers asked us to give them an option for placing a receiver battery in the front too so we made slots for the straps in the new frame-attached diverter plate to allow for a front-mounted battery.

4) Super-Strong Stainless Steel DFC axle.

Also from feedback from customers that had some concerns we now have the DFC axle made out of a strong Stainless steel that’s attached to the pitch arms via a large threaded end of the axle.

5) New side plate on conical pulley.

Again from customer feedback we added a side plate to the conical tail-driving pulley for cases when people don’t tension the tail belt correctly. This will give those customers some peace of mind.

6) Even lighter now.

Even with the heli already being light we decided to revise all the parts to make sure the weight savings were maximized. We were surprised at how much weight we were still able to take off the heli. At the same time we improved on the plates and several part’s geometries. We also refined the styling of some parts like the pitch arms and some other parts.

Improved Geometry and Lighter Top Servo Plate

Improved Geometry and Lighter Top Bottom Gears Plate

Lighter Main Gear Hub and Main Gear

Improved geometry and lighter top Main Shaft bearing block

More refined styling in the pitch arms on both the Follower arms and DFC heads.

7) New Optional electronics mounting plates.

Also from customer’s feedback we made some optional electronics mounting plates that allow for busier electronics for people that want to add telemetry hardware and such. Since these are not needed for all applications they’re available as an option.

We are very happy that we have arrived at this point and are releasing the kits.

We do warn you that the Mostro is a very an addictive helicopter so you better get ready for a ton of fun.

The Mostro Monoblock. This is truly a new approach that we are introducing in the market.

In the design of the Mostro we wanted to have all the mechanics connected by rigid elements without flexible elements
being part of the system unless they needed dampening. The result was the design of what we call the Mostro “Monoblock” ( single block).

In the Monoblock design all elements of the system that affects the gyro sensing are mounted in a rigid superstructure.
No part of it rests on the flexible frames unless it needs dampening.

Recommended Motor and ESC:

From flying prototypes and testing experience we have found the combination of the Kontronik Pyro 750-50 and the 750-56 depending on what head speed you’re looking for and the Kontronik Kosmik Cool 160 or 200 to be the best power combo we have tried on the Mostro for 12 cell configurations. For applications where very high power is needed we have found that the Pyro 800-48 competition is a power monster.  Other configurations and brands will also work great but these are the ones we have tons of experience on with fantastic results.

New Boxing of kits

We changed our approach to boxing and we now have a single box for the larger helis like 700 and the 600 lines as well as smaller boxes for the smaller helis like the 500 line that’s being developed. This approach allows us to tailor the kits to the ones that’re being manufactured.

We are now packing the helicopters in a main box that contains 4 boxes inside as well as space for the booms.

There are four boxes. A large one contains the Canopy, a smaller flat one one contains the frames and some of the bags, another flat one one contains more bags and a small one contains things like tanks, fan shrouds and other taller parts that won’t fit in the larger flatter boxes.

Aurora FBL Electric 90

Aurora FBL Electric 90

This is a helicopter that was designed from the ground up as a pure native electric heli. With the design of the Aurora Ultimate Avant re-defined the design of advanced 3D RC helicopters and now with the electric Aurora Avant is redefining what a 90-sized electric helicopter should be. This is the dream machine that sets the pace of what an electric 90 should be. Designed from the ground up as a true native electric helicopter with input from many seasoned 90 size electric pilots that were looking for the ideal 90 sized electric machine. The flying characteristics are simply unparalleled. It flies light and nimble yet with the precision of a contest machine.

The use of two inexpensive 600-class battery packs allows users to reuse their current 600 size packs as well as access the growing number of low cost battery packs becoming available. One of the concepts used in the design was minimizing damage to the packs. With that in mind we designed the mounting of the packs by attaching them to solid sections of the frames whose edges would take the brunt of a collision minimizing damage to the packs.

This innovative staggered side-slot battery placement makes it very quick and easy battery exchanges and also balances the left/right weight load to keep the cg centered and the moment of inertia minimal. The elongated right side Battery slot allows you to slide the packs back and forth to adjust for precise CG location.

This helicopter is truly the best 90 electric in the market. Unlike other designs this helicopter was designed from the start as a truly purebred electric helicopter.

The model uses the tried-and-true and very successful Avant CCPM system and the amazing Avant FBL RigidCore Head and combined them with the rest of a design that takes the state of the art in high performance 3D electric helicopters to a new level.

Features:

• Battery Pack protection

One of the most important features of this design is the protection of the power packs which are arguably one of the most expensive parts risked in a crash. The main power packs are attached to a solid section of the carbon fiber frame both with self-sticking Velcro and by the straps. Since collisions are absorbed mostly by the solid section damage to the packs is minimized during crashes.

• Wiring is all inside the frames
All wires and cables fit inside the frames leaving no clutter outside.

• Generously sized locations for motor and speed controller
The locations for the motor and speed controller are large enough to accommodate current and larger sized motors and ESCs leaving plenty of space for oversized outrunners and large heat-sinks.

• Pinion support on top and bottom
Support on top and bottom distributes the load into two bearing blocks minimizing wear on the motor’s bearings.

• Motor and ESC exposed to open air for better cooling
Both motor and ESC are protected inside the frames and at the same time exposed to the flight’s air flow helping them stay cool during flight.

• Back Tail Servo location
Since electronics are not exposed to exhaust oil the tail servo is located in the back of the frames for direct tail control.

• Servos close to receiver
All Servos are easily accessible and at a short distance from the side=mounted receiver for easy access and service.

• The power packs are located higher
Unlike in most electric conversions where all the packs are located at the bottom the Electric Aurora features a design that places the battery packs at a higher location putting the CG point at a higher location making side-tic-tocs and rolling maneuvers effortless.

• Slim design and low front profile
A very slim design and low front profile give the Aurora a very low drag coefficient that allows it to keep the momentum in the most demanding maneuvers.

Low parts count
An incredibly low parts count makes this an extremely easy to assemble, repair and maintain heli.
